Our Mission

Founding Freedoms Law Center is the legal arm of The Family Foundation, and exists to engage in the legal arena to preserve and promote the fundamental principles of life and liberty in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Our Story

Founding Freedoms Law Center (FFLC) was officially launched on July 1, 2020 as a direct response to the recent onslaught of anti-family, anti-freedom, and anti-faith initiatives in Virginia through numerous unjust laws that went into effect the same day. The 2020 General Assembly session marked a significant shift in our Commonwealth with the passage of an unprecedented number of new laws aimed at destroying innocent unborn lives, God’s design for male and female, the nuclear family, parental rights, and the most basic notions of religious freedom. The Governor's overreaching Executive Orders in the midst of COVID-19 has further imperiled so many of Virginians' fundamental liberties, even preventing the assembling of churches and resulting in the criminalizing of pastors. 

The Family Foundation of Virginia, as the umbrella organization of FFLC, recognized the need to increase our capacity to fight for God-given foundational freedoms and against oppressive and unjust government edicts – not only in the executive branch and the General Assembly, but also in the courts. And so was born Founding Freedoms Law Center.

The Family Foundation could not be more excited about carrying our mission through FFLC to another key battleground of public significance in the judicial branch. We understand, as our friend John Stonestreet says, that ideas have consequences, and that bad ideas have victims. So we recognize that misguided laws, along with an unchecked executive branch, inevitably lead to the infringement of many people’s fundamental rights. FFLC exists to defend those individuals and organizations free of charge.
