President Trump Highlights FFLC Client In State of the Union Address

Last night, President Trump invited our former clients, Sage Blair and her mother Michelle, to the State of the Union Address to highlight Sage’s incredible story. The Founding Freedoms Law Center was honored to play a key role in that story. You can watch a short video about her story here.

Sage Blair, and her mother Michelle, being recognized by President Trump during his State of the Union Address.

Sage’s case has become a national example of the consequences of school policies that conceal gender identity counseling and social transition from parents. We are so grateful the President put a spotlight on it to push back against this kind of harm to children and violations of parental rights.

Sage’s story began when previous trauma led her to identify as a boy at school. School officials encouraged a new name, male pronouns, and restroom access without informing her adoptive grandparents. After she was assaulted in a boys’ bathroom, her parents learned what had been taking place. Sage later ran away, was drugged and trafficked, and after she was found, faced months of court battles before ultimately being reunited with her family.

The Founding Freedoms Law Center represented the Blair family and helped secure Sage’s safe return. Our organization also drafted “Sage’s law” — legislation designed to prevent schools from socially transitioning or counseling students on gender identity without parental knowledge and consent.
