Hon. William Mims

Justice William Mims assumed senior status on the Supreme Court of Virginia in 2022 and now serves as Director of the Pre-Law Program at Christopher Newport University, where he also teaches courses on the U.S. Constitution and American law.

A former Attorney General of Virginia and member of the General Assembly, Justice Mims is one of only two individuals in the Commonwealth’s history to have held all three of Virginia’s top legal roles: legislator, law enforcer, and jurist.

In addition to his distinguished public service, he has served as an adjunct professor at two Virginia law schools and is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of legal professionals.

Justice Mims is a graduate of the College of William & Mary and holds a J.D. from George Washington University and an LL.M. from Georgetown University.
